Business and Marketing Links on the World Wide Web

The following two sites are good examples of how expensive marketing information can be. Atkrin is a furniture manufacturing information publisher. The data can be looked at as online reports. Notice the cost.

Another site for expensive market reports is IDC IDC Their information on software and software markets is excellent but it is also quite expensive. Do a search for web authoring.


American Business Directory This database covers 12 million companies and 120 million residents. The information is taken from white and yellow pages and is easily the most "up to date" of the business directories. (Requests must be initiated from a site within the High Point University campuses.)

Business and Company Resource Center -- Full-text. Great Marketing Resource!

This source includes data from the Ward's Business directory, the Market Share Reporter, the Encyclopedia of Associations and many more business resources. It is a good tool to use to find marketing data and includes financial analysis on the included companies.  

Local Newspapers on Infotrac

Look here for local newspapers such as the Greensboro News and Observer.

Newspaper Source on NCLive

Look here for national and local newspapers in full text. While most of these newspapers do not contain full content they do contain pertinent sections and many are business publications. The business section of the High Point Enterprise is included.

JD Power and Associates

This is the home page of JD Power. It includes a search interface for commonly requested data that has been researched by this company. Click on this link to go straight to this search engine.

AC Nielsen Company

Search the many countries covered by the AC Nielsen service. Or click here and go directly to the AC Nielsen page for Net ratings.

Nielsen Media Research - The media research arm of the Nielsen ratings systems.

Search the Nielsen site. The data listed here is pretty slim but it does make reference to how their rating system works. There are some free resources listed here. The report of Nielsen ratings is included in many journals. To search journals try looking in Academic Index ASAP on InfoTrac Searchbank.

Statistical Abstracts of the United States
Statistical Abstracts is one of the broadest government number publication.

  • Click on the index and then do a "find" to look for a topic.
  • Pay attention to the "table" number.
  • Go back and find that "table" number and click on it.
  • Do your "find" search again, but this time look for your topic.
  • The Department of the Census QuickFacts State Look-up
    This site narrows down to the county level. To go directly to the North Carolina search link you may click on this NC census link. After you have selected this area choose the county of interest. After looking at the county data you might like to click on More data for this area. To go directly to the North Carolina information you may click on this NC Details.
    The Links highlighted include People, Business and Geography. Pay attention to the links for the new NAICS codes and also the County Business Patterns.

    Search for 2000 census-related data based on a city, county or state name at this US government site. Choose a type of data to find and choose a geographical characteristic and off you go. To go directly to do a search of 1990 census information in the Gazetteer you may click on this census link.

    Search descriptives and demographics by zip code at this private site. And you may also want to look at the new method of classifications for communities that is called the Community Taperstry

    COLI: Cost of Living Index from the American Chamber of Commerce Association

    Search "Cost of Living" in major cities at this private site.

    EasyDemographics Free Data

    Search for demographics by zip code at this private site. Set up an eamil account and zip code to use the year 2000 census data.

    North Carolina Demographics and Statistics page
    Almost any number about the state can be found here. It is divided by topics. It also provides access to LINC Log into North Carolina. This site provides access to demographic information on the state of NC.

    North Carolina Office of State Planning

    Search the many documents of the North Carolina Office of State Planning. Information includes projections to the year 2015 and breakdowns by population, race, age, income and more. Click on this link to go directly to North Carolina demographic information.

    North Carolina Commerce

    Department of Commerce is the State of North Carolina's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. The Department also has under its auspices the information technology function for state government and agencies which regulate commerce in the state. Search by county name or click on the map that is provided.
