The Reference Department provides library instruction in numerous forms to HPU faculty, staff, and students. According to our mission statement, the HPU Libraries:

• will endeavor to teach students how to use [library] resources by offering research sessions that are coupled to classes at the university as well as workshops offered throughout the semester.
• will strive to educate information-literate lifelong learners. Information literacy enhances the pursuit of knowledge by preparing students to think critically about the information they use for their academic, professional, and personal lives.

Library Instruction Sessions

Faculty can request a library instruction and research session for their classes. These sessions are designed around a particular assignment and/or class and can cover a wide range of resources and skills at every level, including:

• Basic library research skills (using the library catalog, introduction to databases, keyword searching, etc.)
• Advanced library research skills (subject-specific resources, advanced searching techniques, etc.)
• Information Literacy skills (locating appropriate forms of information, evaluating sources, proper citation, etc.)

Individual Research Consultations

Students and faculty who are working on in-depth research projects, including graduate students and Senior Seminar students, are invited to make an appointment with a reference librarian to get assistance with their research. Contact Kathy Shields or your library liaison to make an appointment.

Workshops for Faculty, Staff, and Students

Library workshops are offered throughout the semester on a variety of topics. This semester's schedule is available here.
